GP/ PHARMACY PROJECT OFFICER: LIAISING WITH YOU AND DRUG HEALTH SERVICES

South West Sydney Area Health would like to introduce to you Ms Rebecca Smith, as the GP/Pharmacy Liaison Project Officer with Drug Health Services for the Liverpool Fairfield Area.

South West Sydney Area Health Service has been operating a drug and alcohol GP/Pharmacy support program since 2001.

The aims of the GP/Pharmacy Project are to provide GPs and Pharmacists with:

  • Collaborative and consultative support for GPs who experience patients with drug and alcohol problems
  • Information and resources pertaining to drug and alcohol treatments and interventions
  • Training opportunities across the drug and alcohol spectrum, and
  • Supporting smooth transition of drug and alcohol patients between public services and primary care services.

For your information, Ms Smith’s professional background includes a range of positions dealing with drug and alcohol issues.  

Ms Smith has worked as a clinician and coordinator within the Drug Health and related fields, provided case management to clients receiving pharmacotherapy (methadone/buprenorphine) as well as community counselling for drug and alcohol issues.  She holds a Masters of Social Health majoring in Drug and Alcohol Issues.
